上饶师范学院前身为1958年6月设立的上饶师范专科学校。1959年，上饶师专与上饶工专合并改组为赣东北大学。1978年，经国务院批准复办上饶师专。2000年3月，经教育部、江西省政府批准，设立上饶师范学院。
